apologize for his past, but Keith viewed him as a prime example of
what it truly means to be a loving father.
Keith viewed this as a sign of God’s divine love, flowing
from God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, through his
ancestors to his father, then to himself, and ultimately reaching
Bishop Kevin W. Vann. This divine connection brought Keith back
to his homeland, where he was adopted as Bishop Vann’s spiritual
son at Phuong Duc Church, the church built by his great-
grandparents. Although his father never shared their family history
or Catholic roots from when they immigrated to the U.S. in 1975,
Keith always felt that something was missing in his life—now he
finally understands. In His mysterious ways, God has brought His
divine love full circle back to Phuong Duc Church in the Diocese of
Bùi Chu, where the evangelization of the Vietnamese community
first began in 1533.
Today, the bishop’s visit is transforming thousands of lives
in Vietnam. He has already committed to building a new pastoral
center next to Phuong Duc Church, where children can learn about
their faith. Keith believes that God guided Bishop Kevin Vann to
continue his family’s legacy by opening his heart to the people and
making the land his second home. When Keith’s father felt that their
family legacy had been forgotten, God’s love continued to shower
down on Phuong Duc Church, serving as a testament to how
deeply God loved Keith through the example set by his father—a
love that now extends throughout the land.
