However, he always trusted his son’s judgment and stood by him,
regardless of the decisions he made.
On April 19, 2024, his father was rushed by the
paramedics to Torrance Memorial Medical Center after suffering
septic shock. When Keith arrived at his father’s house, he found
him too weak to stand, likely due to a fall. As Keith helped him up,
his father softly whispered, “I love you,” the final words Keith would
hear from him before the paramedics arrived. When his father was
admitted to the ICU, he unexpectedly began speaking perfect
English, discussing again the BFG Handbook’s powerful message
about the battle between good and evil. Keith found this sudden
language shift and focus on the handbook both mysterious and
profound, particularly since his father had only spoken Vietnamese
to him. Despite his deteriorating condition, Keith’s father continued
to pray fervently, asking for Jesus’ protection and Mary’s
intercession.
As his condition worsened, the doctors suggested hospice
care, but Keith urged them to continue treatment, even agreeing to
amputate both of his father’s legs below the knees in an attempt to
stop the infection. On June 6, the amputation was performed, and
his father survived, but his health continued to decline. After
multiple hospitalizations and another encounter with septic shock in
the emergency room, Keith’s father once again spoke in English,
telling Keith that there was another name associated with the BFG
