When his father began experiencing difficulty breathing, Keith
immediately took him to Little Company of Mary Hospital in
Torrance, CA. He was committed to ensuring his father received
the best possible care. Over the next six weeks, Keith monitored
his father closely, encouraging him to eat even when he had no
appetite. His commitment to his father’s well-being became his
primary focus in the months that followed.
Doctors recommended open-heart bypass surgery, but
just five hours before the scheduled operation, it was canceled due
to recurring fevers and his father’s weakened condition. Instead,
the medical team opted for a less invasive procedure,
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), which was
successfully performed at Torrance Memorial Medical Center on
December 19, 2023. After the procedure, his father celebrated both
Christmas in the hospital and his 77th birthday at home on January
18, 2024.
However, his father’s health took another turn for the
worse when he began suffering from vascular failure, leading to
gangrene in both feet. Despite undergoing a stent placement to
improve blood flow, his condition deteriorated. Keith saw his father
endure immense pain yet continued to pray, asking God for
forgiveness and offering up his suffering for the sake of their family.
His father surprisingly spoke of Keith’s BFG Handbook, predicting
that it would impact the world in ways he had not anticipated. This
was unexpected, as Keith’s father had never fully understood or
known how to support his son’s writing career, and he had never
read the book, primarily because he only read Vietnamese.
