Built For Greatness (BFG) Movement Timeline

Together, we will be one voice, under God, to restore the Truth to all nations and its people.

During Keith Hoang’s BFG  journey, he learned his great-great-grandfather, Hoang Lenh Thu, died a martyr for the faith in North Vietnam. Following his martyrdom, Keith’s  great-grandfather Nguyen Huy Riem and great-grandmother Nguyen Thi Riem built Phuong Duc Catholic Church in Nam Dinh, North Vietnam. Keith’s grandfather and grandmother, Hoàng Van Mao (Ông Chánh Mao) and Nguyễn Thì Ty (Ba Van) dedicated their lives to serving the poor and giving the deceased proper burial grounds. Keith’s Father, Tam Hoang, helped restore Phuong Duc Catholic Church in North Vietnam and Chi Hoa Catholic Church in South Vietnam. Today, Keith is joined with Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie, Fr. Michael Barry, Caterina Krai, and his wife, Tracy, to unite and transform the hearts of humanity by restoring the truth of our faith. It is important we proclaim the gospel using a universal language of the truth people can easily understand, expanding into different cultures, history, and the creed of the other faiths. This new expression of the gospel is the Christian Edition of the Tao Te Ching, a BFG handbook tool for the New Evangelization. The BFG handbook is not a different gospel, but a presentation of the gospel that is new through its expression, through its methods, and through its ador. The BFG handbook is a necessary tool for the New Evangelization, making it even more pertinent by the recent global events. We invite you to join the BFG movement!

I sense that the moment has come to commit all of the Church’s energies to a new evangelization… No believer in Christ, no institution of the Church can avoid this supreme duty: to proclaim Christ to all peoples.
Pope John Paul II

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven - Ecclesiastes 3:1

1999

Visit to Mary’s Garden at St. Vincent De Paul

Keith struggled to build a business for several years without any success after graduating college. Tracy wanted to get married, but he was not financially ready. In 1999, he decided to go pray at St. Vincent De Paul of Los Angeles; the church Keith once visited with his mother when he was ten years old. Keith prayed in front of Mary’s Garden and promised God that he would dedicate his life to serve if God granted his wishes. God shared in his spirit the blessings will come in five years. He returned home excited to share with Tracy the news and promise to marry her in five years.

2007

Mother Mary’s Call to revisit the Garden

In 2007, after disobeying God for nearly two years to write the Christian version of the Tao Te Ching, Keith felt in his spirit Mother Mary calling him to visit her at St. Vincent De Paul, in front of Mary’s garden. He asked God to give him a second chance after recklessly losing eight homes from the real estate crisis. Still not feeling qualified to write the Christian version, he felt in his spirit to speak with a homeless man sleeping next to Mary’s Garden. Keith was inspired by the homeless man’s ability to recite the bible; he spent the next three months learning the bible from him. The homeless man also shared the importance of daily prayer and informed Keith about the Church’s crisis. The news shook Keith, and he didn’t want to believe it at the time. Before the homeless man’s departure, he reminded Keith that everything he shared was the truth. Keith was inspired to complete the Christian Edition of Tao Te Ching, Built For Greatness, as his promise to God.

2014

Keeping the Faith

Keith spent the next two years reaching out to the Church leaders to share his vision for the Christian Edition of the Tao Te Ching but was ignored and/or declined countless times for a meeting. His commitment to keeping his promise with God led to the business collapse due to Keith’s absence to move the business forward. It created multiple unforeseen and unbearable problems, making it extremely difficult for his wife and Keith to raise five young children. After making millions of dollars from the business, he started with his wife in the garage to a negative monthly income; he didn’t have a choice but to move back into his parents’ home temporarily. In his heart, he was always filled with great joy and the promise God will restore everything that was lost if he continues to keep his faith. Keith kept his faith with a joyful heart and continue reaching out to the church leaders, never giving up hope.

Archbishop José H. Gómez of Los Angeles & Pope Francis

Keith received the support of Archbishop José H. Gómez, who delivered his first letter to Pope Frances. Pope Francis said he would remember Keith in his prayer. In the letter, he wrote the Christian Edition of the Tao Te Ching, Built For Greatness, will be vital as a unifying spiritual Reformation for the Church. The foundational principles teach us to keep our priorities clear. It establishes a meaningful conversation without stressing religious differences because the core principles share a common truth. It will intersect with today’s modern society’s morality and cultural truth to renew their spirit and live a purposeful and fulfilling life. The best way Keith likes to sum it up is from Thomas Aquinas, “Truth cannot contradict Truth.”

The Light of Jesus Appeared on Easter Sunday

Keith and his daughter witness a bright light in the hallway while watching Easter Sunday mass at home. The light came out from the wall where they had a picture frame on the opposite side of the wall in their bedroom that read, “He Is Risen (Matthew 28:6).” He shared this with Fr. Michael Barry, and he responded, “The Lord has a very specific mission for you. He is asking you to bring His Church back, back to the true faith, back to true and chaste marriage, back to true priesthood, back to chastity, back to the Holy Spirit. How to do that is a great awakening. There can be no compromising anymore. Eucharist is vital. I will offer a mass once a month for you and your family.” Keith found this remarkable because it is the same message God shared with him in 2007. The Great Awakening Fr. Michael Barry shared is the “Spiritual Reformation Movement,” he is starting, the BFG Movement. In his letter to Pope Francis, Keith’s prayer is to use the Christian Edition of the Tao Te Ching, Built For Greatness, as an essential tool to restore the Truth. In late 2020, Keith and his wife established their non-profit foundation, Built For Greatness. The five board members include Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie, Fr. Michael Barry, Caterina Krai, his wife, and Keith.

God’s Blessings & Promise

In 2004, Keith achieved all the goals God promised and married Tracy. Shortly after settling into their new home, he met a homeless street performer. Keith took care of him for six months, teaching him about business and the meaning of Love, Trust, and Faith. It was a struggle, but he kept his promise to serve God. Keith was inspired to find a solution for people to seek the truth. He felt in his spirit; God asked him to translate the first Christian Edition of the Tao Te Ching to share with the world. However, he didn’t feel qualified because Keith never owned and read a single page. He viewed the Bible as an intimidating dictionary that will take too long to read and understand.

2012

Early Version of Built for Greatness

Keith was transformed after meeting the homeless man and decided to step away from his successful e-commerce business. He spent the next five years (2007-2012) studying the bible and eastern spirituality. Taoist Master Derek Lin (an award-winning, bestselling author in the Tao genre) helped him complete the First Christian version of the Tao Te Ching. Dr. Michael Downey, Editor of the Award-Winning, The New Dictionary of Catholic Spirituality from St. John Seminary, was intrigued with his manuscript and said it’s important for our future, especially China. After his grandmother, Nhu Pham passed in 2012; he was even more driven to complete the early version of Built for Greatness. Keith completed the book in late December 2012 and dedicated it to his grandmother. A song was also written for her from his eulogy, called Nhu Pham. See the video below. In addition, God promised him an Archbishop from the Catholic Church would join as a co-author and help him start a spiritual movement to restore the Truth.

2017

Restoration, Family History, & Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie

Three years later, God kept his promise and restored the business. It was different this time because Keith knew everything came together too quickly in a miraculous way he finds impossible. It went against all understanding of how a business should operate and function to become successful. Keith and his wife purchased a million dollar commercial building and the home of his dream, only a step away from the business to remain close to his kids. God also fulfilled another promise and invited Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie to become the co-author of his book, Built For Greatness. Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie revised the original book and wrote the explanation for each chapter. Keith asked God, “Why me?” His father later explained it’s the family’s strong faith in God we continue to serve. He also shared with Keith the life of his great-great-grandfather, Hoang Lenh Thu, who died a martyr for the faith. Keith also learned his great grandfather and mother, Riem, built the Catholic Church in North Vietnam, Phuong Duc. Next to the church is a burial site built for them in remembrance of their devotion to God (watch video above). He also learned that his father and his father’s siblings helped restore their local church in South Vietnam & the US.

Book Presentation, Fr. Michael Barry, & St. Thérèse of Lisieux (Little Flower)

Archbishop Sylvain Lavoie and Keith finished the revision of Built For Greatness (Bible Verse Book Version). They nearly completed the video presentation for the book, but Keith ended up in the emergency room. Doctors immediately scheduled him for an emergency surgery that took five hours to save his life. After he was released from the hospital, Keith rushed home to finish the video presentation and delivered it to the nuncio of Canada, Msgr. Luigi Bonazzi. Miraculously, he received the book along with the video presentation a few hours before flying to Rome for the gathering of all nuncios in June 2019. Msgr. Luigi Bonazzi wrote a supporting letter for the book to Pope Francis and gave it to the Substitute Secretariat of State, Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra. He hand-delivered the book with the video presentation, along with Msgr. Luigi Bonazzi’s supporting letter to Pope Francis. On October 1st, Keith met Fr. Michael Barry of San Bernardino and shared what the homeless man told him in 2007. Fr. Michael Barry said it was our Mother Mary speaking to Keith about the apparition of 1610, Our Lady of Good Success. Upon leaving Fr. Michael Barry’s Office Building, a very strong scent of roses showered around Keith. This miraculous event happened on October 1 st ., the feast day of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, The Little Flower.

BFG Movement

Today, more than ever, Keith feels it is extremely urgent we become one voice, under God, to restore the Truth to all nations and its people. Since 1999, God has worked many miracles in bringing Built For Greatness (The Christian Edition of the Tao Te Ching) to fruition. It uses a common language of the truth people can understand. It establishes a meaningful conversation without stressing religious differences because the core principles share a common truth. Built For Greatness will intersect with the morality and cultural truth of today’s society to renew their spirit. It is not a different gospel, but a presentation of the gospel that is new through its agents, through its methods, through its ardor. This lost truth is an essential call from the church to build God’s army of saints for a New Evangelization. It will unite humanity with core spiritual truths that cut across all philosophies and religions and renew our sense of hope in the goodness, beauty and truth of God. Our greatest weapon of choice is the TRUTH against this rising darkness. John 8:32, Jesus tells us, “…truth will set you free.”

Keith is reminded of what the homeless man shared with him in 2007 when he asked, “How can I help? Do the people need money?” The homeless man responded, “No government or amount of money can help. The only way to help is by praying.” He reminded Keith on every visit the importance of daily prayer, especially Mary’s prayer (the Rosary). Pray With Us to spread the message of truth.

Keith’s hope is to awaken all of humanity to a life of Truth. “That all may be one” in Him. That we are called to be faithful in the ONE who is GOOD, and in His goodness, we discover our greatness. Together, we can restore this truth and bring justice to all. “Truth can’t contradict Truth” – St. Thomas Aquinas. Let us come together, under God, and ignite the BFG movement.
